With about 92 million inhabitants Ethiopia is the second most populated country in Africa. It has 90 languages and a young population and is bordered by Eritrea to the north and northeast, Djibouti and Somalia to the east, Sudan and South Sudan to the west, and Kenya to the south.
Nehemiah Gateway’s first contact to Ethiopia came from an Ethiopian living in Germany. The vision was to support the villagers in Migiru Gutanee in building a school. A Nehemiah Gateway team visited the village in May 2013. Migiru Gutanee has a population of about 1947 (according to their own information) and is situated north-east of Addis Abeba between the two large cities of Fincha and Shambu. The main language of the region is Oromia.
The target of the visit was to become acquainted with the needs and the local possibilities as well as the prevailing conditions. Talks were held with the village elders, the head of the education authority and responsible representatives of the prospective project. After discussions, a multi.-level support plan was developed with which the electrification of the village has started.
