Pogradec is situated at Lake Ohrid in the South-East of Albania and is a thriving destination for tourism in the country.
The Amaro Tan Project is located here, one of the few Christian-based state approved schools in Albania. The poorest of the poor children are supported here through education (kindergarten, elementary and secondary school) as well as through social service and medical check-ups and treatment.
The school is a shelter for the children protecting them from trafficking and abuse, and a homely place where they get warm meals regularly. Additionally, the families are helped and supported through social programs.
Most of these approximately 140 children come from Roma families, who still face strong discrimination. Talented pupils are also given the opportunity to graduate from the NEHEMIA High School, and possibly even to enroll at N.G. University.
